Point of view

We will develop in 3D, but using a tilt to the camera making it look isometric. This will make it a lot easier when working with collision detection, lightning and shading, animation, etc. It also allows us to change camera behavior if we change our minds. Maybe we want a free camera, or one that can rotate in different angles for other perspectives. If we’d gone for 2D isometric style with sprites we are kinda forced to that view forever.

Zones

The game will most likely have a zone based approach, where you only see parts of the world. Each zone is automatically generated based on properties of the neighbor zone. A bit like the map is extended in Baldur’s Gate (???).

Base building

Every survival game needs some kind of base. We are pretty much in TBD mode here, but we have discussed having an upgradable base, much like you upgrade your base in for instance The Division.

Skill trees, specialization, prestige

What you do in the game should matter. Much like in Stardew Valley where farming will level up your farming (and only your farming) we’d like to see the same thing here. There aren’t classes or anything like that, but the way you operate your character “makes it a class”. Someone who spends their time cooking a lot will be getting perks to the food they make. The food in turn can be used by any player, thus making a “chef” a usable trait in any group constellation.

Same thing goes for gatherers, close-mid-long range fighters, trap makers, healers, crafters etc.

Offline gaming

Self playing games have been vastly successful in the past, and we’d like to tap in on that as well somehow. Black Desert Online provides a ton of self playing elements that makes certain things a lot easier. No one wants to log in to a game and spend hours grinding for resources you’d need to craft and use something in seconds. In BDO you can do a lot of the farming automatically.
